Some people also get confused between fat and fatty acid....and worse, some people also said that fat and fatty acid are the same...
Butter is fat (partially dehydrogenated) and if it get hydrolyzed will formed fatty acid and glycerol.

well the most common lipid is triacylglycerol, which is the typical glycerol with three fatty acids joined onto it by ester linkages. The fatty acid is just the carboxylic acid that joins to the alcohol, the actual fat is the three acids and alcohol together as the triglyceride.

a little bit addition....I think we have to write it "polyvalenic alchohol (glycerol)" so we wouldn't get riddled with monovalenic alchohol.
