Is it true that we don't know exactly how the cell replicates itself?

What do you mean by that? I'd say we have pretty good understanding of cell division. There may be some unresolved issues still though.

What level of detail in our understanding are you looking for? One could reasonably argue that we don't understand how any process works; if you keep probing deeper, you uncover uncertainties.
