DNA during replication.

Post by Mag » Fri Dec 09, 2005 2:19 am

I have a question that i need to answer from a book.

What chemical subunits are used to synthesise DNA molecules during replication of DNA?

And...

Of what elements are these subunits made.

Thankyou, and hi. :)

So what is DNA composed of? First of all try to find the answer for this question.
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishment the scroll
I am the Master of my fate
I am the Captain of my soul.

The "legs" of the DNA are made up of a phosphate group and a 5-carbon sugar. The "rungs" of the DNA are the nucleotides, and those are adanine, gaunine, thymine, and cytosine. Adenine and Gaunine are purines, while Thymine and Cytosine are pyrimidines. Purines are made up of a 6-carbon sugar bonded to a 5-carbon sugar. Pyrimidines are a 6-carbon sugar.

I hope this answers your question! :0)

Here I'll try to draw the structure:

Well, it's a little sloppy, but that's how it is drawing with a mouse.
