Hello folks, I have a trail camera set up in a wooded area near my home in Monmouth county, NJ. I am not a hunter, I just enjoy photographing and following the habits of wildlife. I captured a few photos of what I believed to be a coyote, however there are several people telling me it is a black wolf. I am hoping some of you experts would be able to shed some light on it for me. Thanks so much!!
That looks too big for a coyote and being from Mercer County, NJ it would be awfully far south. I would suggest you call the local wildlife department or animal control and send them the pictures. It isn't a wolf either because that would be very far south or on the run. My guess is its a lost dog. If it is a coyote that has ventured south, the wildlife department needs to know.
Thanks for the reply Daniel. I did email the state some photos and they say it's a coyote. The lost dog did enter my mind as well, however it was chasing a buck that was in that spot a minute before those photos were taken. I'm just not sold on the coyote thing. I think, like you said it's too big. And the head is larger than any coyote I've seen. I'm certainly no expert tho. Thanks again for the replies!!
