Please help me decide which microscope to buy

Please help me decide which microscope to buy

Hey I'm looking for a good microscope to buy but first this is my purpose: I want to study HUMAN/ANIMAL living cells in culture.

So, in this case would I be better off with an inverted microscope (with max magnification of 430X) or a light microscope with a magnification up to 1000X/Oil immersion)?

I know quality makes a difference as well such as DIN Plan/semi-plan achromatic lenses, lighting, and other of the sort BUT,
conceptually, and IF you only had enough money for one of these (both at around the same price), would you go for the inverted or compound micoscope for viewing CULTURED CELLS.

One of my worries is that 430X might not be enough, but I haven't done any research on human cells. For anyone doing reseach on cell cultured human cells, do you think 430x is enough for most applications?

I'm not sure what an inverted microscope is, but if you're looking at unstained cells, some special beam arrangements should be there - phase contrast, dark field, something...

An inverted scope has the optics below the stage, allowing you to get close (plastic-thickness) to the cells without dumping the objective into the culture media. This will probably limit the maximum magnification you can use, because the short focal length of a very high-power objective may end up being within the culture flask plastic instead of up far enough to see cells. However, an inverted scope is hard to beat for culture observations if you are working with flasks and need to keep them sterile during observation. If you need high-resolution images, down to the level of organelle structure, you will likely need to stain the cells anyway and will probably need a fluorescent microscope. A working cell bio lab is likely to have both inverted and traditional microscopes, likely with fluorescent capability in both the inverted and traditional scope. Then there is the confocal...
