Blood Pressure basics.

Post by steduval1985 » Sun Nov 20, 2005 9:50 pm

I've looked all over the net but cannot find a basic description to my question. Can someone please explain the reasons for the changes in blood pressure between sitting, standing, and lying down?

Thanks guys/gals!

Too much blood pressure would cause your vessels to pop, not enough pressure makes you dizzy.
You need more pressure when your brain is higher above the ground.

Blood pressure is regulated according to the need of the organs and tissues. It changes with your activity and position because the need of blood changes.

Gravity. Veins have a harder time pumping blood back towards your heart when it has to work against gravity.

not quite. ask your physics teacher about ascending capilar functions and it's applications to circulation of blood. Then you will understand how circulation in plants and animals really works...
