Buying cheap fruits and vegetables

Post by hurly » Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:12 am

I would like to know the physiological consequences of eating cheap fruits/vegetables (assuming they are not all browinish with lots of dots etc)
If the cheap fruits/vegetables looks ok, there shouldn't be any problems right? I mean, a banana is a banana, no matter if it's cheap or not. It's the same chemicals inside.

Maybe it has something with the way they are grown? It shouldn't matter what kind of furtilizer it has been used right?

may be the price is related to the variety, taste, from where they are procured or the fact that whether they are rare or u get plenty of them.e.g. mangoes in india can cost u anywhere from Rs.15 to Rs 50 per kg according to their taste.doesn't mean that cheap ones cause any physiological harm.moreover any fertilizer which can really be harmful wud be banned.wudn't it?

If they are not sick, they are OK... Probably the expensive ones have better taste.

The price of the fruits differ in every country and season is another important factor. I don't think they are bad.

Maybe the cheap fruits/vegs are wild varieties? The expensive ones could be special horticultured ones or something that is not native to the area. More money for shipping costs?

im assuming dat if its cheap itz not organic. however, there may not be anything wrong with it even if it is inorganic, cuz u cant really tell da difference.

nope(no). but do not say if it is a banana toys.

if the cheap banana is OK, it should be safe, and i think what siya said is right. but at the other hand, the expensive banana which the high cost is caused by radiation-to keep it at good condition while they are send for a long distance to other(s) ares-some said that eat food with radiated before could give us a bad effect...
hence, becarefull to eat something (^ ^)
whatever it is cheap or not.

So, if it genetically engineered wouldn't it still be a carbon based organic substance?

i think technically that is possible siince anything organic is a carbon based substance, but it may not necessarily be natural
