Lactic Acid and Alcoholic Fermentation

Post by castinpetal » Tue Nov 08, 2005 2:28 pm

 could anyone tell me the specific processes of fermentation in cellular respiration? im doing a project for my biology class, but its not going very well
1)what's the enzyme that converts pyruvic acid into lactic acid?
3)what's the enzyme that acts in alcoholic fermentation?
2)how many NAD+ is produced in lactic acid and alcoholic fermentation?

i think only NADH is involved.... there is no enzyme

1)The enzyme that produces lactic acid from piruvic acid is LDH (lactate deidrogenase); it oxidaes a NADH+ molecule to generate NAD+ and lactic acid.
2)The alcoholic fermentation needs two enzymes: the first (piruvate decarboxilase) converts piruvic acid in acetaldeid, and the second, alcohol deidrogenase converts acetaldeid in ethanol.
3)Every reaction produces one NAD+.
