Proton Motive Force

I need information about proton motive force in bacteria.How can asidophilic or alkalophililc bacteria produce pmf in different pH conditions :?:

Okay I'm not very sure about PMF at all. But from what I gather it's the sum of the pH change and electrical potential difference over a membrane.

Just by analysis I'm going to say acidophillic bacteria will produce PMF in a low pH (acidic) whereas alkaliphillic probably produce PMF in a high pH?

Maybe you're looking for something different. Wish I could help more.

Hi!,

I decided to add my little grain of salt in here, hopefully it will help you.

I am not sure what you need to know of the mechanism of PMF. In the case of acidophilic microorganism, where there is a high concentration of proton on the outside, there is a flux of proton to the inside of the microorganism, force that is used for the synthesis of ATP. In some organism (like the one that I study..jeje), they use the electrons obtained from the oxidation of mineral compounds to generate the necessary energy to eliminate the proton from the inside (cytoplasm), in this way preserving the pH difference that exist between the inside/outside of the cell.
For the case of alkalophilic I am not really sure.
