melanogenesis in reptiles

Post by JFDery » Mon Oct 31, 2005 7:45 pm

I know that black pigment can be produced by melanocytes and melanophores (the black and brown chromatophores). Do reptiles have both or only melanocytes? I've read contradictory (actually mainly unclear) documents on this matter.

Secondly, are xantophores a familly of pigment that would include erythrophores?

thank you. JFD
