What sea creature is this?

I found this animal washed up on the beach. A hard top with protruding white shell-like ridges. A soft "foot".

Looks like a chiton.

I think you're right. The "white ridges" are apparently the remains of the articulated shell plates that normally cover it.
This one seems to correspond to photos of the "gumboot" chiton.

Definitely a Chiton. They like to creep around the bottom of the ocean floor..

I'm a diver and see them fairly often. You sometimes see them with oysters also. I've done a little pearl diving in a effort to find some beautiful pearls like those. Haven't had much luck as of yet. Nice find on the chiton.
