## How will conc. on 2 sides be equal when osmosis stops?

### How will conc. on 2 sides be equal when osmosis stops?

Osmosis will stop when conc. of 2 sides are equal or increase the pressure on the high concentration side to negate the flow of water from low concentration side. I think the latter is rational but for the former, if i have a system which 2 sides are seperated by semipermeable membrane one is filled with NaCl solution and another with pure water. from many text books i've read,the side containing pure water will tend to flow to the another side until CONCENTRATION OF 2 SIDES ARE EQUAL since Nacl cannot move across the membane how
the concentration will be equal? (pure water doesn't contain any NaCl)

If the membrane is semipermeable and the solute cannot cross the membrane, the concentrations will not be the same. However, the osmotic pressure could be the same (if there was not only pure water, but some solution).

could you please explain why osmotic pressure will be equal since osmotic pressure is directly proportional to the centration of solute? and the air pressure is the same

I said, if it was possible, i.e. if the hypotonic solution also contained some solute and the difference would not be so huge.

Osmotic balanc as explaind in texts has short comings. Osmotic balnc btw a NaCl solut on 1 side and intremediat wit a semi permaibl membrane,and d other ionizd H20. Water moves frm d hypo solvent i.e water 2 balance d hyper solute,resultin in a solution said 2 b balanced.presure is built on d hyper solution i.e salt solution with markd drift of water from d hypo solution.
