Acetyl CoA go wrong?

Post by mutant » Sun Oct 23, 2005 3:54 pm

My professor gave us a question about acetyl CoA. Here it goes.. A scientist designed a cell in which lipoic acid was replaced by dimethyl sulfide (CH3-S-CH3). This compound did react, caused a problem later in the sequence. Show the reaction with dimethyl sulfide and its subsequent problem. I know it's hard to write a mechanism on here but if anyone can explain what is happening structurally, i'd appreciate it. Thanks.
