Human senses

Post by Speadskater » Wed Oct 05, 2005 3:49 am

Do you think that humans are loosing some of our senses as we evolve? our ability to use them has improved like hearing sounds and turning them into language, but the ability to smell will probably be lost because in a world based on technology we really won't need smell AS much. Which if we loose it we will be smarter because that part of the brain would take up a different function. This will never happen anytime soon but in the distant future we may loose some senses and gain intellegence or other senses that are more usefull for what we need them for.

unless future technology harnesses the power of the different senses. Did you know that currently they are using specific sounds to signal trends in the stock market? A riff might suggest rising gas prices while a "hot cross buns" tune might signal a split. Perhaps the video games of the future will use a vanilla scent to signal level bosses :D

true... if we do use the sense we won't loose it. But what I'm asking is if we don't use a sense would we loose it or come up with different ways of using it?

I think we would loose it. Just think at animals that live in environments like caves...they are blind, but other senses have developed to compensate. and i don't think it's possible to come up with other ways of using your eyes, they are too specialised organs
