Catalase treatment concerns

Post by kk » Fri Sep 23, 2005 8:10 pm

My questions are concerning exogenous treatment of human cell lines with catalase:

- how high concentration of catalase is toxic to eukaryotic cells if exogenousy added?

- since in vivo catalase is localized to the peroxisomes, how long does it stay active (if it does) in the media (pH should not be an issue because catalase is active at pH 7)

- is it needed to block or eliminate catalase?

Basically I need any information about catalase in "in vitro" assays.

Thank you!

The only reference I found uses 200 U/mL for 5 min. (Sellak et al., Blood 1994).
