Antimicrobial property of Jatropha podagrica
I would like to do a research about the antimicrobial property of Jatropha podagrica. I have read some article regarding this plant. In the studies they used chloroform and methanol extracts. Are there other ways in which I can extract the "chemicals" of this plant that exhibits antimicrobial property aside from using ethanol or chloroform. I would also like to compare its antimicrobial property to commercialized products.
Look at hydrodistillation http://domin.dom.edu/faculty/jbfriesen/ ... ential.pdf
It's fairly simle and has been aroubd for a long time.
Why Jatropha podagrica? Please try to compare efficacy in context - broth mic/mbc and, worse, zone of inhiibition are pretty useless. If the application is preservation compare speed and extent of efficacy per compendial norms and vs commecial material in a formula, if disnfectant - again follow EPA or EN protocols in a formula context.
