Rate of osmosis

Post by jsmith613 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:45 pm

is the rate of osmosis dependant on the length of the diffusion pathway?

depends, whether the difference of concentrations will be the same per length unit or per whole length

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

lets say osmosis occurs between plant and solution
solution has lower water potential

will a thicker cell wall (increased diffusion pathway) reduce rate at which water is lost by plant?

mainly, thicker cell wall will function as barrier, so the rate of diffusion will be for sure affected.
