Preparing chocolate agar?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone had experience of preparing chocolate agar? I'm new to this! When you add the blood and then stir until chocolatised, is this ok to be done on a heated stirrer? The concern I have is that the heat won't be uniform, but will this still be sufficient to chocolatise?

I hear about chocolate agar for the first time, but my guess would be, that the heat is required to chocolatise the agar, isn't it?

Chocolate agar is made from blood. The heat gives it a chocolate color. (see info here: http://www.bd.com/resource.aspx?IDX=8994 )
That is the extent of my knowledge on the subject as I always bought it premade.
