There 're two mechanism. Animal can use these antifreeze binding protein to knockout the frozen-nuclei. So their tissue still not frozen at 0oC below Or in plant, water will move out of the cell, they will sleep as seed. Plant can use the mechaism of (or like) animal, because they found that ABA (absicisacid) can prevent frozen.
