mtDNA and human evolution origins

Post by LatitudeZ » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:30 pm

Hi I'm a high school student nearing university. I am looking at pursuing a career in the field of sciences.
Lately, I came across this article for an assignment but I can't figure out the meaning of it. http://www.artsci.wustl.edu/~landc/html/cann/
I tried reading related articles online but I need to summarize this article. Can someone tell me what's happening? I know that they're using mtDNA to find the origins of human (most likely in Africa) but I can't get the details in the research.

Any help would be grateful!

Thank you!

Was this the study where the researchers didn't bother to learn how to use the software they used?

There are many newer findings in the same field - if you're really interested, get into something less than 23 years old.

Hm... I could look into some newer findings, but my assignment is to summarize this specific article sadly. My teacher isn't so great. Would you care to do a quick overview on what this article is about?

Thanks!

Irrespective of the quality of the paper, I do not think that you can expect anyone to write a summary for you. But if you have specific problems and can point at what you do not understand, we might be able to help.
