simple epitope

Post by derChronostat » Tue Jan 18, 2011 9:48 am

Hi,

I couldn´t rally figure out where to post this question.
Does anybody know an antibody that recognizes a very simple epitope - like a single loop? For example a peptide-antibody or an antibody binding to a single "site" on a protein.
Most of the antibodies recognize a context of several subepitopes which is too complicated for my approach.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

you should be able to to raise antibodies only against your epitope (understand - use only that epitope for imunization), or raise polyclonal antibodies and lok, which one will best bind your epitope

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

this is not what the thing is about. I need something like a positive control - a known antibody known to bind a very simple epitope (best would be a loop - hence a nonlinear peptide or protein-fragment) which can be used in in-vitro experiments.

Cheers,
Chris

I learned that there is a lower limit to the size of any potential epitope - is that what this is about-?

Epitopes are more than just a loop or any other shape since they include the shape of each aa in the sequence that makes that loop (or other).
I am not sure what you want to do but you can order specific peptides made by a number of companies, and some will also sell Ab specifically targeting those peptides. Would that be what you are looking for?
