Merits of lipids/carbohydrates in respiration

Post by foodle » Fri Nov 05, 2010 12:30 pm

I have been set the question-
Discuss the relative merits of carbohydrates and lipids as respiratory substrates, including outlines of the relevant metabolic pathways.
I am however unsure as to what to include. Do they want me to compare discuss storage/energy output/ease of use of the different substrates? If so, would anybody be able to briefly explain any merits that would be great.
