Alignment in Site-specific Recombination

Hello everybody!

I'm currently learning for my exams and have a problem about site-specific recombination:

When recombination between two DNA molecoules with lox sites through Cre-recombinase occurs, those two lox sites first have to come close to each other for recombination to start. How is this achieved, how do they find each other? Since both DNAs are double-stranded, it can't be via base sequence homology. Do the Cre-recombinases, which bind to the lox-sites, provide this "link" by interacting with each other?
Unfortunately I can't find anything in my books covering this issue. I would much appreciate any hints on the mechanism!
