What frog is this?

Post by nataliet » Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:04 pm

We found this little guy in a rather dry grassy area in Durban, South Africa. Usually we don't see frogs around here but rather large toads (actually not sure if this is a frog or toad, just assuming), so this was quite unusual, not to mention the white colouring. We don't really know too much about frogs so some info would be much appreciated. My boyfriend wanted to take him home with us, but being the nature conservationist that I am I wouldn't allow it, but I must admit I'm starting to wonder if perhaps we should have, as the poor thing looked terribly out of place in this huge, dry, grassy park. We even began to think that maybe it even escaped away from a human home. If somebody with knowledge on frogs and South Africa could help us it would be so great! Thanks in advance!

Looks to me like a South African Micro Frog, a critically endangered lowland
species.
It's not a tree frog from the picture you provided.
Don't worry that you didn't bring him home, he'll be just fine :)
They come in all ranges of colors.
You are very fortunate to have found and photographed this little guy.
