Hemoglobin

Post by Rumie » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:27 pm

We were supposed to use PyMol to do this with a Hemoglobin model. I'm not sure how...

Questions:
1) Find three amino acids in the protein chain that when mutated would interfere with hemoglobin function by acting as dominant negatives.
2) Find three amino acides that would affect heme binding and/or the ability of heme to function properly for transport of oxygen.

The PyMol model given to us do not have any amino acids labeled, and it really just looks like a mess of sticks and curly stuff. I've researched online and couldn't find anything specific...

you have to change the view to e.g. cartoon and choose only those, which are very close to heme

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
