TASTE & nutritive value

Post by 2810712 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 9:24 am

Hello, as per my observation , I concluded that the people who are in the need of some think feel that specific thing tastier [ in natural form ] . I think , U may do the observations and vote.
I mainly considered the following edibles -
1] HONEY - as per ayurveda honey reduces body wt. so those with less body wt. will not like it.
2] DATES - iron defficient people wud like it
etc.
Wud it be possible to explain how does it occur ?

I recall some research about how babies were given different foods to decide what to eat. The result was the babies chose a balanced meal. Kinda makes you wonder why we adults can't do the same :)

I think the ability to understand what food is OK will go on reducing as we go away from nature.. same is the thing with the ability to identify the indication of earthquakes and other such things given by nature . the original people of andaman & nicobar identified these ............

Yes. I noticed this with myself and soymilk. I initially did not like it, but then short while later, after jogging, i had a huge craving for it. So, i went to the store and bought a couple containers of it. I am assuming I was maybe after the protein and sugars... and nowadays, i drink it quite regularly and actually prefer it to real milk. Heh or during the holiday season... soynog anyone?

Yeah, so if anyone has any links to any real, solid research on this sort of phenomenon, I would be very curious myself. I've tried various manners of googling it and turned up nothing so far. Thanks. :)

Thank you very much for the response. sorry for late response [ I had my exams , so please understand].
I think, you noticed it because you don't only go by taste. I mean to say those who give more importance to the artificial enjoyment due to taste , don't notice this. It is also possible that the urge for that particular food is lesser in some people , so they don't happen to notice this . What do U think?
I am a student and real or solid research is not yet possible for me.

Sugar and fat tastes good, that's why we eat it. But when our sense of taste evolved we didn't have access to large amounts of sugar and fat (modern day argoculture give us a nearly unlimited amount of food). When humans evovled it was impossible to die because of overweight.

Sugar and fat contains lots of energy, it is good for us. But fake sugar used in sugarfree candy tells us "this is good, this contains energy" but we would starve to death if we only ate sugarfree candy.

Excuse my bad english

Sorry for late response.
Yeah, sugars being most essential are felt most joyful - sweet, its sweetness in more pleasurable
when U are hungry , I feel .
Also, I think the time of evolution of humans and of taste mechanism is different. I think,
taste sensitivity is present right from fishes . What do U think?

I think you were talking only about the candy and cakes. You may be surprised to know that sugars and fats are all around us (milk, meat, plants).

my answer to the original question is yes

when you go play some sport you crave for salt, water and sugar after the sport

why?

body has a role to play it has to maintain the body's internal environment within narrow limits
these stuff are used up and the brain senses it and you crave for it
it isn't what you do that matters but it is how you do it

Your survey isn't testing the validity of the idea, just what people think about the idea, and people believe a lot of dumb things.
