genotype question

Post by jaj012591 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 6:31 pm

Am having great difficulty answering the following question: Each genotype presented below represents a diploid individual. Write a list of the genotypes for all of the possible haploid gametes produced by the indivudal. Assume independent assortment of all the genes: R,Y,and B.
a. Rr
b. RrYy
c. rrYy
d. RrYyBb
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Well,
Rr is a diploid with one chromosome. Haploid gametes would then be one R, and one r.
RrYy is a diploid with two genes. Haploid gametes would contain two genes but haploid: RY, Ry, rY, and ry.
rrYY is like above: rY would be the only haploid gamete genotype (rY, rY, rY, rY)
RrYyBb is diploid with three genes. Haploid gametes would contain three genes, but again haploid: RYB, ryb (those are the easy ones to figure out), RYb, RyB, Ryb, rYB, ryB, and I think that is all.

kolean did mis-read the third one, so I will correct him
you have rrYy, so of the gene R you can get only one version, thus all gametes will contain r. On the other had, of Y you can get either Y or y, so the combinations will be simply rY and ry

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
