RNA secondary structure

Post by faraidun » Sun Nov 15, 2009 5:29 pm

Hi,

Does any body know if there is any enzyme which specifically cute only the secondary structures on RNA (mRNA for exp)- like an enzyme only cute hairpin loop and not the rest of the RNA.

Thanks for your answers.

I guess you mean cut, right? :)
I think, there is something like that, in the case of tRNA

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

there's DICER that cuts doublestranded RNA..it's used in gene silencing and also it's protection against some viruses...I think I read about such enzymes, but can't remember

Drosha and Dicer are good enzymes to start with, as both rely on secondary structure for target recognition.
