Headaches

Post by TheVirus » Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:28 pm

Such a common thing in our daily lives, but most of us know nothing about them. All i know is that they sometimes happen when the blood vessels in the head/brain have a bigger blood flow (because you're thinking hard, or stressed, or you're not breatihng right so more oxygen needs to be brought to the brain) and "swell", which leads to the pain. What do u know?

Headaches are usually caused by stress, eyestrain from watching television or staring at a computer screen for prolonged periods, and hormonal changes. Moreover I think the most common cause of headache above is weather.

hope you know that much

i think you are more interested in the mechanisms rather than the cause

certain parts of dura and lepto meninges when stimulated give rise to pain.
vasodilation givesd rise to the pain as you figured out
but pain comesz not from the dilation but by the pressure exerted by the walls.

that sort of helps.
else type mechanisms+ headache in google

Oh, thanks. Yeah, that's what i was actually asking for. Thanks, Trevorlawrence, anyway.
Just one question to see if i got it right: the pain comes from inflamation of the meninges, causing pressure on the walls, which stimulates the pain nerves, right?
