Fertilization - ZP3 Protein Question!

Post by mandiah » Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:52 pm

Can someone please explain the fertilization process of sperm binding to the egg and the ZP3 protein?
I'm a bit confused as to whether the ZP3 inhibits the sperm from binding to the egg... or what...
I know that GalT is released from the sperm, which binds to ZP3, and then does the acrosomal reaction occur right after the sperm binds to ZP3 so that the jelly layer of the egg is digested? =(
I'm very confused. If someone can explain the process, that would be amazing! Thank you! =)
