Subforums?

Post by Dr.Stein » Thu Jul 07, 2005 3:25 pm

What about classify topics into subforums to make it more neat and more organized? It will anticipate to have similar topics here and there. Also, people will easier to find the place where they should ask and the moderators will be easier to handle them.

Just a little suggestion. Thank you.

For example, check my board here. It is dedicated to our beloved band actually, but I just want to show you about the forum management

It would be really hard to implement such a thing... Plus, the forum has a search function... Maybe we will do it when the forum has 25000 posts :D

Excuse me, but what do you mean by saying "Moderators are human too Dr.Stein!!!"?
Maybe I put some improper term here that made you staring at me that way?... you know, because different forum has different term, for instance: forum, topic, thread, discussion... My idea was... just put it this way: for example: ''sub(s)" under Zoology

Zoology:
- Invertebrates
---- Protozoa
---- Metazoa
---- etc.
- Vertebrates
---- Fish
---- Amphibi
---- etc.
- Others/General

I just put my suggestion (I am sure it is the purpose of this section), and it is all up to you, it is in your hand, whether you will think about my idea or not. I do not mean to burden you anyhow. I just share my opinion based on my experience on moderating forum, the one I show you, that's all. I am sorry if I offend you somehow, I never mean it.

Thank you.

The ones who must do that sub-grouping are the moderators. And I think it is very difficult. Furthermore, sometimes more than one subject is discussed in one topic.
And I'm not staring at you. I just tried to emphasize that it is too hard to do.
Sorry, if you misunderstood me.
And thanks for your suggestions...
Regards...

If they make it like Dr.Stein suggested, it would be ard for someone who want to make a comparison post example, he/she want to compare between amphibians and reptiles. then, where should he/she put this topic??is it in the subforum of amphibians or reptiles...?

It is not as difficult as it seems. It is just like put papers from any topics into their own folder. Let me explain you further so you really understand my idea. Afterwards I will stop.

Example:
Topic: Animal Physiology
---Subtopic: Endocrine System
------Threads: (posted by members)
1. Hormone vs enzyme?
2. What's the difference of adrenalin and glucagon?
3. I have a question about urine ---> not related, moved to subtopic Excretory System
4. etc. etc.

It is just for an example, mods can made the best classification by themselves. The benefit of making this is to anticipate similar threads here and there. You can save some spaces for that. Again, it is just my idea. I could help you if it is necessary. Thank you for your time reading this.

victor: I was just put it for an example anyways, and of course, it is not strict at all. We can manage it somehow. Wanna try to make our own Biology forum for Indonesian students and teachers and others who has an interest on this field? I'll show you what I do mean

It really wouldn't be much use, this forum is more like a stack of papers with new stuff added on top of old ones. No one will really browse, it's much more common to add to the stack or to use the search function.

Just my experience with previous posters.

i think it's a great idea. Do it now so that when there are 25,000 posts you won't have to organize them all.
