Agar plates and E. coli... Simple question...
Hello everyone!
I'm trying to construct a biology experiment, and I was wondering if it is correct and proper to take a sample of baterial growth from one agar plate and place the sample on a new fresh agar plate?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,

In my experience, and others may vary and be more correct, making a new streak from plate to plate sometimes goes better if you grab a colony from plate 1and culture it in a test tube with fresh media, then use that to streak plate 2. The only downside to this is that it adds an extra step= extra time... so it may not be feasible depending on your circumstances.
anyone else with thoughts?

I appreciate your help

I have one question about your post: Should I scrape a cultured agar plate and place the sample into a proper liquid medium, and finally, after letting the liquid culture sit for a while, take a sample for that liquid culture and place it on a fresh agar plate?

I'm kinda a new timer to these type of experiments, and I hope I'm not bugging anyone with my petty questions

ERS wrote:no worries we like all questions! BTW, sorry about the delay here with your second question. What you described should work quite fine. Make certain that you are using good technique so you don't contaminate during the various transfers.
Good luck!

Thank you VERY much for all of your help. I really greatly appreciate it
