Extraocular Muscles

Post by fiercedeity085 » Sat Apr 18, 2009 3:21 pm

My anatomy book is a bit confusing...in the margins, it says that the:

lateral rectus moves the eye laterally
medial rectus moves the eye medially
superior rectus elevates the eye and turns it medially
inferior rectus depresses eye and turns it medially
inferior oblique elevates eye and turns it laterally
superior oblique depresses eye and turns it laterally

Now, why is it that in this diagram: http://www.tedmontgomery.com/the_eye/gr ... esmove.jpg in the top left picture, the superior rectus is shown as the prime mover of the eye laterally (the cornea of the eye is clearly elevated and abducted)?

Thanks for the help

Hey I hope everything is going well, I actually thought about a question like this myself. But I knew I could not explain how the movements in the eye work exactually how the diagram displays.

I wanted to know if perhaps you watch SCI-Fi or have ever seen the Stargate SG-1 series. Well if you have or have not seen it there are characters that have a double EXtraocular Muscle, which gives the person the ability to blink side ways or horizontally, how could this be if it is possible, also they work as host so they bury themselves into the person so they can become one and the human with the host is able to perform a different task or see at a stronger sight ability then any human if they are trained properly.

If you can at least give me a idea or perhaps know how the eye lid of the host in the human being can bend or blink horizontally then let me know. I have studied your eye diagram as well. Maybe it is like wearing contact lens for the eyes, you know how you can flip your eye lids ha ha ha lol.

I don't know but give me a chat back when you get the time
