scandalous question?

Post by winters3000 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:05 pm

I promise I'm not some sort of loon -- I am working on a book about human sexual behavior, and my editor has asked for a bit of compare and contrast -- I am looking for information on the "sexual peak" of various non-human species -- I'd be especially interested in chimps/monkeys/orangs, dolphins, dogs, hummingbirds, insects...but really, any kinds of animal would be of interest.

Please let me know if you can help!

Thanks,

Ben

Sexual peak?

For plenty of information (and a good list of references to explore further) I can only reecommend this book:

If you can try to watch a documentary from National Geographic, its Wild Sex. The series talks about of the different sexual habits among animals. The series consisted topics on femme fatales, swingers, libido, deviants and macho males which are interestingly evident in the animal kingdom.

The PBS series "The Nature of Sex", now out of print I believe, would also be a terrific source. I have seen it on eBay.

Don't go with the almost-urban-myth of human peaks (male, late teens, female, mid-thirties) - that was all based on a small study that wasn't even focused on such a thing, but had a comment that suddenly became big media play.
