## Calculating Enzymatic Rate

### Calculating Enzymatic Rate

Okay, so I just completed a Lab Assignment (Enzyme Catalysis) but I'm having a hard time wrapping it all up.

I collected all the data on my own and completed the "Lab Assignment Worksheet: Data Table 1" and I also charted all of the data that I collected down onto the "Lab Assignment Worksheet: Graph 1" all of which was rather simple.

However, the next portion of the Lab Assignment is where stuff gets tricky for me... I dont know if I should even be asking this on the Biology-Online Forum since technically, the issue is no longer with the Biology aspect of my Lab Assignment but rather the Mathematical aspect. So, if I'm asking this in the wrong place, please let me know and I'll go ask elsewhere on a Math Forum or whatever.

I'm an Independednt Study student so there are really no teachers/tutors to ask for help.

In my Lab, it mentioned the formula that is to be used in order to calculate the Enzymatic Rate

I've been trying to figure this out for days now and I know that the point of this forum isnt to get other peole to do your homework for you, but technically, I've already completed the vast majority of it on my own. So, I hope that my asking for assistance is not taken as me just trying to slack off.

Below is a photo copy of my Lab Assignment Worksheet... (It may be a bit messy but thats only because I tried to color code it and make the Numbers/Coordinates bigger so that you guys could actually see what they were.)

I know that the description of this seems really long and has probably already turned several people away from helping me but in all honestly, if you're smart, I'm pretty sure that what I am asking of you cant be too hard. All I need to know is how to calculate the Enzymatic Rate using the data that I collected on the worksheet below.

If you have any knowledge on this subject, just please help me out a little bit. My asking here is pretty much a last resort.

**Anyway, this is my issue: The last question states "Use the space below to calculate the initial rate of the Catalase Enzyme." and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea how to do this.**I feel really stupid for asking this question because if it were not for the fact that I am still stuck in Basic Maths (Not a strong subject for me...) Rise/run is the same thing as slope of a line. You need two x values and two y values. Such as (2,1)(4,2) These are xy coordinates. Rate of change is DeltaY/Delta X or in our example above

1-2/2-4 = -1/2

This number is only meaningful if your graph is linear. In your case above it did not appear so.

So what can be done is to manipulate the data. In my image below, I show your original data and then another graph where I changed it. What I did was take time and use the inverse of it or 1/t and took the log of H2O broken down. So now the graph is linear. This is probably overkill for what your doing though.

See how the second graph is linear, so you can pick two X,Y points that are on a straight line. In this case X is 1/t and y is log(H2O broken down)
