### Lab Assignment: Enzyme Catalysis ( !!! URGENT !!! )

Okay, so I just completed a Lab Assignment (Enzyme Catalysis) but I'm having a hard time wrapping it all up. I collected all the data on my own and completed the "Lab Assignment Worksheet: Data Table 1" and I also charted all of the data that I collected down onto the "Lab Assignment Worksheet: Graph 1" but after that is where things start to get tricky... I dont know if I should even be asking this on the Biology-Online Forum since technically, the issue is no longer with the Biology aspect of my Lab Assignment but rather the Mathematical aspect. So, if I'm asking this in the wrong place, please let me know and I'll go ask elsewhere on a Math Forum or whatever.

Okay, so this is the issue: There are six lab objectives.

So, as I stated before, the data has already be collected and graphed and I know all of the terms and can explain how using one chemical to measure the amount of another chemical works - blahblahblah. Where I've run into a problem is in the very end of the lab. The last question states "Use the space below to calculate the initial rate of the catalase enzyme." and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I feel really stupid for asking this question because if it werent for the fact that I am still stuck in Basic Maths (Noty a strong subject for me...) I probably could have had this problem figured out withing a matter of minutes. I'm in Independednt Study so I have no teachers/tutors to ask for help. In my Lab, it mentioned the formula that is to be used in order to calculate the Enzymatic Rate (The Formula is: Rate = Rise over Run) and once again I feel stupid for this, but i dont even have any idea what 'Rise' or 'Run' is let alone how to set it up so that I can calculate it into the Enzymatic Rate of this Lab Assignment. I've been trying to figure this out for days and I know that we arent supposed to ask people to do our homework on here, but technically, I have already dont the vast majority of it. So, I hope that my asking for assistance is not taken the wrong way. Below is a photo copy of my Lab Assignment Worksheet... It may be a bit messy but thats only because i tried to color code it and make the Numbers/Coordinates bigger so that you guys could actually see what the were. Any help would be highly, highly appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out or at least trys to do so.

**Those Lab Objectives are the following:**

1.) Measure the rate of an enzyme. (In other words, measure how fast an enzyme is doing its job.)

2.) Calculate rate (speed).

3.) Explain how changes in temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, or substrate concentration affect enzyme activity.

4.) Describe a method of using one chemical to measure the amount of another chemical.

5.) Collect and graph data.

6.) Make inferences on the data.1.) Measure the rate of an enzyme. (In other words, measure how fast an enzyme is doing its job.)

### Re: Lab Assignment: Enzyme Catalysis ( !!! URGENT !!! )

Rise is vert (y) axis in mLs. Run is horizontal (x) axis in seconds. Answer in mL/sec. Calculate for each plot on the graph.

### Re: Lab Assignment: Enzyme Catalysis ( !!! URGENT !!! )

You have 6 plots on the graph. The first one has a "rise" of .5mL and a "run" of 10 seconds. .5mL / 10sec = .05mL/sec If the question specifically asks for "initial rate" as you suggested, that would be it. However, the question on the form says "Calculate rate". The rate of catalysis can be measured at each plot using the same math.

You're welcome.
