Sharks do not have any special organs for making sounds, so apart from the noise made when they gnash their teeth, they cannot make noises with their mouths. Great white sharks however are known to "tail slap" the surface of the water in social communications that may indicate the size of the shark to other rival sharks and perhaps stake claim to rights on a food source.
