I'm not sure, but I heard on the Discovery Channel that the deadliest snake in the world is called the Golden Lancehead. I would dearly love to visit the island that they are found on.

I wonder if we should measure how deadly
is the snake by its propensity to attack
human or not.
that gos back to how many drops of venom.
Some snakes are not going to wast precious
venum if there is an other way of escape.
That is the secret of the cobra handlers,
they know this principle.
Black mamba produce a lot of venom to ratio of
amount needed to kill a human, so would be more
prone to "give you some"

Acually the most poisonous snake in the world is the fierce snake. the black mamba has the most toxin in its venom but the fierce snake is the most poisonous.

Ok i'm from Australia and have no scientific background,i have however seen many of our snakes out in the bush.
Inland Taipan is reconised in Oz as the most poisonous snake.
Some people call them the fierce snake but i am not convinced them to be exactly the same.
Eastern Brown or King Brown are a lot more wide spread and are a fairly common sight and here are regarded as the 2nd most pisonous snake in the world

Now for sheer agression our Tiger snake wins hands down they chase you and repeatedly strike and they are eveywhere.Yes i have been chased and had one strike at me!!

Throw in our other poisonous snakes, our Funnel Web Spider, our box jellyfish and our blue ringed octopus Australia can be an interesting place

man!! I like where I live!!
the only snake here that is even remotely
dangerous in comparison is the
Eastern Diamond Back rattlesnake. :)
I wonder if there is any surveys floating around that
show statistics of deaths from particular snakes. surely
a snake tht will be more prone to attach and continue to
bite, is more dangerous. For example, one snake mentioned
here by someone that has a lot of deadly venom,
was featured on a documentary.
It basicaly just ignored people,
unless really provoked.

Alex, The fierce snake, or taipan, is believed to have the most toxic venom produced by a land snake in the world. Fortunately, they only live in sparsely populated areas of southwest Queensland and Southern Australia. Taipans grow to over two and a half metres long.

A single bite from the Fierce Snake contains enough venom to kill as many as 100 adult humans or, in mouse terms, 250,000 mice. The fierce snake's average venom yield is 44 mg, with a 110 mg record yield.
