wow this was got dug from the depths
but while it's up here....
common names are confusing, like killer whale and orca.
In America frogs are the smooth wet skinned like Bullfrog= Rana and toads are known as the dry bumpy skinned like Bufo true toads but... In most of Europe it is COMPLETELY opposite. Crazy, that is why scientific names are so important

AND another thing... I can't believe you like orcas because they are like dolphins (although a later post states they actually are dolphins) whales are so much cooler.

Sperm whales

Post by 123Herpatology » Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:26 am

Sperm whales are my favorite cause they can dive deeper than all other whales, up to 10,000 feet, thats 6,000 feet more than the deepest dive ever recorded; and they do this in just about 45 minutes usually. I also find it intriguing that they will purposely beach themselves (slowly suffocating them from they enormous weight), for no scientific reason. Does anyone know how exactly the spermiceti wax works in sperm whales (thus the name)? I know it controls boyancy but i just dont' get how wax does this...
