Post by thisistest1234 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 9:47 am

hey, new guy here, I hope i'm posting in the right section.

Ok, my question is: could someone please explain to me the difference between a dendron and a dendrite.

there seem to be people who say

a. dendrons branch out into dendrites
b. same thing
c. no idea whatsoever :)

anyone know?

The term "dendrite" comes from Greek's word "dendron", which means "tree". Dendrite means projections of cytoplasma, which look like tree ;)

according to this site, http://www.wordinfo.info/words/index/info/view_unit/630 they are the same thing. Despite this i have never heard the term dendron.

I am not sure they are the same. "Dendron" is the root term, then we adopt it for scientific term to become "dendrite". If you visit Greece, and ask about "dendron", people will bring you to a tree instead of a part of neuron... I think it is the same case as "hormone" and "ormao". Or not? Well, I think I have just confused myself   :P I hope you understand what I mean
