Excretory Devices: Proto and Metanephridium?

Post by Raul7 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 3:35 am

I need to clear some questions.

Does the protonephridium function in the reabsorption of what my teacher calls 'good' solutes (ie. amino acids, sugars, etc.)? My notes claim they do not, I have read elsewhere that they do.

Secondly, is it true that the metanephridium conducts ultrafiltiration in podocytes? I have read that this true, notes make a vague mention regarding how the body contractions of the annelid sp. aid in this process.

Any extra information comparing and contrasting the two sytems is greatly appreciated.

Virtually all excretory systems have a "filter out the little stuff" and a "get back the good stuff" phase.
