Evolution

Post by Persephone » Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:34 pm

Hope everyone's doing well.
I was just wondering how a single art can develop into several other forms of arts? As in, how can X, in time, give existence to Y,Z etc?

Also, back in time, when people used to harvest a form of plant that could both be poisonous and edible, by what means did they engender the edible type?

And my last question is, Ricin is highly poisonous for most animals, including insects. This substance protects plants from animals that would eat the seeds. From the perspective of evolution, how can we explain that plants evolve characteristics/traits that are helpful for the them?

Thanks.

Breeding selection, you don't plant the poisonous type. But you'll have to wait for mutations to produce the non-poisonous type in the first place...which might not happen(see cassava).

most of the drive is based on mere observations.Conversion of one art form into another is the function of brain only; I guess , art forms did not evolve one after another. We dont know what was the mother art. To search this concept of art, we have to first define it clearly. An art can be of good agricultural practises, the way of sowing seeds or making a painting!
The rise and fall of different art forms are based on social status of art than talking in terms of natural Evolution.

First art tools they were busy surviving, second art humor, mistakes happen and homosapiens can see shapes that resembled other things , and third art purposeful imitation of things. jest a simple reasoned answer, but art would really be interesting if it happened all at once.

Plants which lack defense mechanisms such as that one are more likely to be eaten by animals. Consequently, in a large enough plant population, plants which do not have those mechanisms will generally be unable to compete with those which do, by virtue of their being eaten more.
