hi everyone,
can anyone of u explain me why can't we work on increasing the number of Th cells in body rather than concentrating on decreasing the viral infection?

If I understand the disease correctly, it specificly targets your t-cells, so having more t-cells would mean it would just spread faster... I think. I could be totally wrong.

what do you mean decreasing the viral infection? Using condoms?

no mith.....thats a measure of prevention.......by decreasing i meant finding drugs etc. to stop the life cycle of HIV(eg. AZT-azido thymidine)......what m actually saying is that HIV infects only the Th cells that are important members of our immune system due to which the patient dies of some otherwise curable diseases like cold.......so why to waste time concentrating on stopping the life cycle of HIV......just work on increasing the concentration of Th cells and you are done.

as far as your point is concerned AstusAleator u have a strong point but can u please throw some more light on that.

I don't remember the details - read the article quite a while ago - but the production of replacement T4 cells also produces an equal number of another T cell type that the virus doesn't infect, and as those build up, feedback makes the whole production process gets slower and slower.

Uh...well, considering the level of infection thusfar and the amount of groups that work to find a cure for HIV and whatnot, I'm sure there's an excellent reason that what you proposed does not seem to be developed.
