silent mutations and phenotypes

how come silent mutations cant generally be identified by looking at the phenotype displayed by an organism.

The definition of silent mutation is that the mutation CANNOT change the phenotype of organisms. So it makes no sense that we can know if silent mutation occured by just looking phenotype
