Read about it here!

Any guesses as to how this calorie restriction works? My guess is that less calories mean less energy for the body to undergo some of it's natural reactions; which would include aging.

My suspicion is that, in times of food scarcity, increased lifespan (especially in animals with fairly limited spans) allows for a close-to-normal chance of producing offspring anyway - the starvation periods become "downtime," without offspring, but the reproductive span remains similar. If that's true, longer-lived species like humans would show a reduced effect.
