How can I test whether my soil sample contains K+ ions?

Well you can buy an electronic meter to test of K+ in the field, but it is expensive.

The are reagent based kits as well.

Or you can just send a soil sample to a lab for soil ananlysis. I don't know what part of the world you are in but here there are labs that will test for the home gardener as well as the professional.
