Radiate Amoeba

Post by Ken Ramos » Mon May 23, 2005 10:47 am

I have been studying ameba off and on for about a year now, maybe a little more. I have observed mostly Mayorella and a few A. proteus. My question concerns the genus Mayorella. When suspended in its aquatic environment, Mayorella extends its pseudopodia to exhibit a radiate stage. At times the pseudopodia will have a spiraled or corkscrew appearance. Can anyone speculate or confirm as to why this is.

Any information on the temperature or salt % of the water?
