Sensible. I am a bit of an odd ball (further maths) But i only ask because different enzymes go at different points so theoretically the cell could be clear but still 'living' just incapacitated.

I only got it today but have started well so the deadline should be doable. How long have you had?

Oh just bear this in mind:

METHYLENE BLUE
CASRN: 61-73-4

Hazardous Decomposition:
When heated to decomp ... emits very toxic fumes of /nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and hydrogen chloride/.

It states in our brief thing that it's the enzymes involved in respiration and according to the faithful Mrs Gren (or Nerg) if you prefer, all living things must respire and therefore if the enzymes involved in respiration aren't working, the yeast is technically, by definition, not alive. I think...

Re: the decomposition of methylene blue; this will be for solid material and the decomposition temperature is much higher than boiling water--which is probably about as high a temperature that will be sampled in this experiment. Methylene blue melts and 100-110 C, btw.

Steen: Respiration constists of hundreds of chemical reactions involving a goodly number of enzymes and as module 2 should remind us respiration does not have to be completed to yeild ATP. But yes valid point if your not a nutter like me!lol
