Potato Investgation

Post by Harald » Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:25 pm

Hi,
I have to do my coursework. My tutor suggest to do an investigation to compare the osmotic potential of sweet potato and ordinary potato.
I need a hypothesis (a short statement what I believe is true) and some explanation.

I do not know much about the difference between yam and ordinary patato
excet that yam taste much sweeter. May be I find out that there is a difference between osmotic potential of them in my investigation but I couldn't explain why.

Does anybody have an idea? I need some help.

Try to address the difference in carbohydrates - osmotic potential (oversimplified) is related to number of solute particles, and yam sugars are likely more numerous (and soluble) than potato starches.

That's a guess.

Thank you for the hint.
