Electron transport chain

Post by josem » Sun Jun 22, 2014 1:28 am

Electrons are finally accepted by oxygen at the end of the electron transport chain. Is oxygen is accessible to the electrons in intermediate electron carriers? If so why electron is not accepted by oxygen at intermediate steps?

The electrons are passed through molecules in the membrane, so the oxygen is not much accessible to them.

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

And they are passed from one molecule to other in close proximity, so the chance of going elsewhere is probably low.
